Compassion
Real compassion comes out of true dispassion.
After I woke up this morning I had a shower and was reading for a while. At 09:00 it was knocking on my door, it must be my breakfast. Ruan’s parents were there. I had my breakfast on the veranda. We talked for a while, as far as their English knowledge would allow it. They are nice people like their son. There were six thick slices of toast, three scrambled eggs, and some tomatoes, onions, and cucumber.
After breakfast, I worked for a while with my laptop. Around 11:00 I left for the beach. I just walked towards the beach, only 200 meters. It was not the beach for swimming yet, some locals were working on their boats. I could see the main beach is more to the right. So I turned and walked on the road parallel to the beach. Then I turned left in and I was on the beach.

Negombo Beach
This beach is not what I would call beautiful. Not many tourists here but many people selling necklaces and Sarongs and other stuff. They also offer Catamaran tours and boat tours. I am not for this today. I sat on a chair, drank a coconut, and enjoyed my life. After I while I felt to go in the water to refresh. The water was warm as usual. There was another guy in the water and I started talking to him about the water and how cold the water is in Portugal. He was from Switzerland, for two months retired. He gave up his apartment in Switzerland and is looking for a place to live. It could be Sri Lanka or Portugal. He was happy that I could give him some information about Portugal. We had some lunch together, Sri Lankan rice and curry, it was delicious and well-made here on the beach.
I laid down on a deckchair for a while, then back into the water. I shared WhatsApp contacts with Andre. It was already 17:00, quite long for me to stay at the beach. Then we said goodbye and I walked back to the mainroad to find an ATM. I needed to change a last time, just so much that I could pay for my accommodation and transport to the airport. Not taking Sri Lankan rupees with me to India.
Here in this road you are getting asked every 50 meters if you want a Tuk Tuk, or a massage, or coming in their Restaurant. These things are happening all over the world, but here it is extreme.
It was around 1000 meters to walk. I found an ATM and realized that I didn’t have my bankcard with me. I left it in the guesthouse not to bring it to the beach. So I had to walk back to the guesthouse. I took a shower first, then started again. I withdrew some money, only the second one was working. From there I booked a Tuk Tuk with the PickMe app, this time it worked just perfectly.
The rest of the day I spent in my room, I was not even hungry, not going out for dinner. Tomorrow I will leave.
