Road trip – 377 km – Coober Pedy

Last night wasn’t as cold as the first one, unexpectedly. I slept much better. We both woke up around 07:00, packed our stuff back in the car, then we had a shower, here was only one shower in the place. We made some breakfast. It was a rough camping without grass and a proper kitchen. We had a banana and yoghurt, just put some muesli and honey in the yoghurt jar. Nothing more to do here. We started day three on our road trip, heading towards Coober Pedy.

We saw lots of dead kangaroos left and right of the road. A feast for the crows and other birds. We also saw eagles eating them. The outback has many facets; sometimes it’s pretty flat and rocky, sometimes there are small bushes.

Mad Max

We had a small break for lunch, just on the side of the road. The wraps we made already yesterday. Around 14:00 we reached Coober Pedy. Coober Pedy is a mining area, they are digging for opal here.

In this town, there are some underground hotels and motels, and even camping. It’s getting 50 degrees here in summertime. We booked in Bila’s Underground camping, a fancy experience to be here. For the next night we booked into a quite comfortable underground hotel. Will see later what it looks like.

The sun was setting in Coober Pedy

After our dinner, Andrew was sitting outside for a while and drinking wine. I wanted to read for a while and walked into our cave. There is neither WiFi nor a mobile connection, but I can read offline as well. After 21:00, I fell asleep. Andrew was not back yet.
