Road trip – 718 km – Kings Creek Station

I remember when Andrew was joking about the wasp sting on my lips. “Fortunately, we don’t have dangerous animals in Australia.” Here in the outback, you could meet snakes, dingoes, or scorpions. I didn’t meet any, not eager to meet them.

I woke up at 04:30 in the morning, went out to the bathroom. When I came back, I realised that I didn’t wear my glasses, and there was a code to enter at the door. Luckily, I could remember the position of the digits. Back to bed, I couldn’t sleep anymore. Before 07:00, we both got up. My phone was not charging again. Maybe something is wrong with the socket, the charger, or the cable? I changed the cable, unsuccessful. In the worst case, the input of my phone was broken. I thought already days before it would be good to bring an old phone as backup when travelling. So I walked into the kitchen to prepare breakfast and started the kettle, but there was still water in it. Nothing happened. My phone wouldn’t charge as well. Andrew came in. I told him, and he opened the fridge. No light in the fridge. He found the fusebox and switched one fuse on. It switched off immediately. I removed the kettle and all worked well. The electronic in the kettle caused the problem. My phone was also charging now, and I was relieved.

Andrew got a good coffee from a shop that was already open, and we had breakfast. Usually, we drink instant coffee, easier to prepare when on the road. After our breakfast, we were back on the road.

It was a long drive today as we were not sure yet how far to go. The destination would be Kings Canyon.

We got some petrol at a service station. Hundreds of bras and caps were hanging from the ceiling. Outside was a construction full of shoes. Must be an Aussie special here.

We stopped for lunch somewhere in the bush, having our prepared sandwiches. Now I understand what many flies mean. There are lots of flies always just around my head. They are just a nuisance here.

We kept on driving for hours before we reached Kings Creek Station, County Petermann. 719 km in a nine-hour drive. It was a long day. First, we were not sure whether to stay here one night or continue to Kings Canyon. That would mean building up a tent here in Kings Creek Station and tomorrow in Kings Canyon. The lady at the reception tried to phone the Camping in Kings Canyon, but nobody answered the phone. So we decided to stay here for two nights. It’s just a half-hour drive to Kings Canyon, where we will have a four-hour walk. It’s a nice place here in the bush in our tent.
