Road trip – 468 km – Balladonia

Another green lake before Norseman

We left our bungalow in The Duke Orleans Bay this morning. Andrew already dropped the keys and the card for the gate into the key drop. So we couldn’t drive the car through the gate. He put some tape on a pen and searched in the key drop for the card. He was quick, successful and got it, so we could leave. From Orleans Bay would be a shortcut to the National Road 1, but we got different information on how good or bad the road would be; it is a dirt road. Also, it was raining at night, and the road would still be wet. So we had to turn back towards Esperance and then drive north towards Norseman.

Norseman seems to be a typical town here in Western Australia. From here, the Nullabor starts for the next 1200 km. Nullabor means “No trees”, although there are trees, but not as much vegetation as before. It is outback again, “Bumfuck Nowhere” (Aussie saying, means “Somewhere Nowhere”). Here is simply nothing, no infrastructure, shops, or petrol stations. At least it has an asphalt road instead of a dirt road.

After 500 km, we reached Balladina. Here is a Caravan and Camping Park. It’s very simple here, not even a camping kitchen, just toilets and showers.

Cooking at sunset, it’s getting windy

We set up the tent under a tree, where there is a bit of shade. All good for us here. Nothing to do, simple life.
