Road trip – 136 km – Geelong
“Twenty years from now, you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” ~Mark Twain~
Another night in a Motel, the rain doesn’t come to an end. The coastline along the Great Ocean Road is absolutely stunning. I didn’t leave the car often; it was simply too wet.

There were not many km left to Geelong, around 130 km. We booked an accommodation there for three nights at the Kingsway Motel, Geelong. The next two days, we would travel by train to Melbourne. On Sunday, we would meet Colin and Rebecca. We met them on the Camino Frances in 2023; they are living in Melbourne. On Monday, Andrew has a business meeting with a marketing company for his new product.
Arriving in Geelong, we checked where the Motel is located. It was still before 14:00, so we drove into the city center to have lunch. It was raining heavily. We found a parking lot near the water. Here we could see the ferries. One would go to Tasmania. We will take a ferry on Tuesday from Queenscliff to Sorrento. Just avoiding driving through Melbourne. Geelong is a port city with a population of around 180,000 in the Australian state of Victoria. It is the second-largest city in the state.
Just on the other side of our parking lot was a Thai Restaurant. It was good to have something warm for lunch. The lunch was delicious, and just next door was a Cafe where we popped in.
After a while, we headed towards our Motel to check in. All the Motels we booked in the last days were convenient and clean, and well-equipped. We were thinking about Bowling today. There is a Bowling (10 10-pin bowling) center in town. We drove there and two games. I was playing for the first time after more than six years. In Hamburg, I was playing in a league with colleagues from the company I worked for last.
