Patterns of Mind

The intellect and the mind split things, the heart unites things.

There will be no Satsang today, Sunday morning. That is the only difference. It is getting warmer in Tiruvannamalai. It is now 35 degrees in the daytime and 20 degrees at night. The fan in my room is mostly running all night. I always close the window around 16:00, so the mosquitoes stay outside.

I had some breakfast this morning at Sathya’s. It’s always the same there, with Idli, Sambal and some other things. A guy was sitting on a table on the other side, I have never seen him before. He looked quite unhappy, or restless. And I was right, when I paid my bill and left, he was outside, smoking a cigarette. He asked me where I am from. I said I was born in Germany. He as well, so we talked in German. His name is Holger. He said that he is here for the first time and that it is his first day in India, and his English is not very good. He has constant pain in his body. A friend told him to go to India, there might be the right treatment for him. But his friend didn’t expect that he would come to India. I am not sure if his friend is here now or in Germany, I think he is in Germany. I could feel that Holger is helpless. I mean it’s quite a thing, when you have never been in India before. He rented a room from Sathya’s, close to the Restaurant. We changed WhatsApp contacts and I told him about getting a SIM card from Jio or other providers. I think I will contact him tomorrow and talk to him.

There is Kirtan again at 10:00 at the rooftop of Sunshine Guesthouse. It will be the second last time today as Gopaha is going back to the West. It was nice to chant the Mantras, they are always the same with Gopaha, nine different ones. There are fewer people now joining Kirtan, they are leaving by and by. I was not here during the peak season from middle December to middle February, when I was in Goa and Sri Lanka. In the morning, I called Edwin from Edwin’s Guesthouse, asking if there would be Thali today. There will be. It’s just a minute drive from Sunshine Guesthouse. When I walked up to the rooftop, Pete was sitting there, the Scottish guy. He will also leave in a few days, back to Scotland. Then Sarah showed up, the English woman whom I met a few days ago at Sathya’s. She was sitting next to me and we had a lot to share while looking at the beautiful Arunachala. The air was very clear today, although there were clouds in the background.

We sat quite a long while there. On another table behind us was a woman sitting. She played violin this morning during Kirtan, and she is singing in a very high intonation, not in words but just sounds, it goes deep.

Back in my apartment I had a nap for around 90 minutes. It’s always good, but sleeping in the daytime, I always need a while to be back. Later I drove to the Ashram and sat down there for a while. I had a coconut outside, she didn’t have enough change, so I will get another coconut tomorrow. India doesn’t have enough small banknotes. On the way, I bought three of these round fried balls, they are not Samosa or Pakora, I don’t know the name, but they are good. I didn’t feel like going for dinner somewhere.
