Road trip – 259 km – Perth

Watch out for snakes

The night was a bit cold and sometimes noisy. Freight trains are running close to the camping place. We got up before 07:00 and started packing our stuff. The tent was still a bit damp, so we left it for a while. It also looked as if it could rain. The forecast didn’t show any rain. After breakfast, we also stored the tent in the car. It hasn’t rained. We started driving towards Perth, back on the Great Eastern Road. We will reach there today. We were driving through the Wheatbelt of Western Australia, quite a change from the outback, which we had passed over the last 9 days. Lots of huge wheat fields along the road.

In South Doodlakine, we passed a green salt lake, the Baandee Lake. It’s a color I have never seen before.

We had a smooth drive on a good road. Sometimes there were holes in the road. On the other side, we saw already road working filling the holes with gravel and asphalt. Many trucks were driving here.

In Meckering, we stopped for a coffee. There was a candy shop, pink and fancy. Somehow special for this area. Anyway, we got a good coffee and New York cookies. They looked like brownies, just a little bigger. We sat outside eating them. They were heavy. After finishing them, we realized that we had sugar for a full week. It was really stuffed.

After a while driving the traffic was stuck. First, we couldn’t see why, then we saw two oversized trucks on the road.

Before Perth, they stopped at the side, so we and other cars could pass. We reached Perth, a city in the South-West of Australia with around 2.000.000 inhabitants. Andrew’s brother is living here, and we are going to stay in his apartment for 5 nights with him. Time to explore Perth a bit, and Andrew can spend some time with his brother.
