Bom Caminho – 21 km – Fão

Leaving Vila do Conde

This day started completely different. OK, my legs were still tired and my feet need some more exercise. Soon I reached the ocean and for hours there were wooden walkways.

Beach at Povoa de Varzim

My mood changed and I felt somehow much better. Walking, walking, walking … I saw more pilgrims today. They just split up in different routes.

Endless wooden walkways
Slowly leaving the ocean behind

At one point the wooden walkways were ending and back on the road again. Fortunately not much traffic here, passing small towns or villages.

The church in Apúlia
Crossing a forest

Just when I got really thirsty, and I had no more water, there was a guy standing with his scooter in the shade, selling water for 1 € a bottle. What to say …

Still forest

I had a break in Agucádoura for a drink and Pastel de Nata. Then continued towards Esposende were I booked a hostel for the night.

Entering Fão
Coffee and Cake

Fão is just on the Rio Cavado, on the other side is Esposende. So I crossed the river, the bridge was under construction.

On the other side I started Google maps to find my hostel. It showed my hostel on the other side of the bridge. Yes, my hostel is in Fão, just the address is in Esposende. But why not walking a bit more than necessary 😅

Back over the bridge and I found the hostel, very comfortable private one.

Hostel do Alto – Fáo
Got a double bed

After having a shower I went to the pharmacy and got some blister plasters. Somehow kind of standard on a Caminho. Then in a mini-market, some food and drinks. Some nice company here in the hostel, a German guy from Bavaria, a woman from the Philippines living in Bavaria, an Argentinian woman living in Barcelona, and more people …

Life is good!
