Roadtrip – 228 km – Talbingo
“Adventure is worthwhile.” ~Aesop~
It was a good night in a comfortable Hotel. The Hotel reminded me a bit of the style of Switzerland. Also, the name, Bernti’s Mountain Inn. Today we would drive to Talbingo, where Andrew’s nephew offered us his holiday house. We stopped in Khancoban for a coffee and a snack. Driving is much slower in this mountain area, with many curves. We would pass Cabramurra today, which is the highest town in Australia. Cabramurra is a small village in New South Wales, known for its role as a Snowy Mountains hydro-electric staff town and its high-altitude location. Cabramurra sits high in the Snowy Mountains at about 1,488 meters above sea level, along the Great Dividing Range in NSW.
On our way, we saw some wild horses today, they are called brumbies here.

There were many kangaroos as well. We passed some of the dams and lakes here, which are used for the Snowy Hydro Project.

In this area were fires in 2019-2020. All the trees around here were burnt for many kilometres. It was called the Black Summer. Before summer’s end, 33 people had lost their lives, more than 3,000 homes had been destroyed, and more than 17 million hectares of land had been burnt, devastating lives and regional economies. Many cities and towns were blanketed in smoke, with air quality ranking amongst the worst in the world.

Late afternoon, we arrived in Talbing,o where we will stay for a few days. From here we can do some daytrips before heading to Wagga Wagga.
