Buen Camino – 24 km – Astorga

A man who is aware cannot move in the past, because it is no more. A man who is aware cannot move in the future, because it is not yet. A man who is aware lives in the present, herenow. Here is his only space, and now is his only time. And because he is only herenow, time as such disappears. Eternity is born, timelessness is born. ~Osho~

How different every day is. Today is a good day. Starting before 07:00 it was quite chilly. I thought about wearing my hoody, but didn’t. Later my nose was running a bit. In the beginning the Camino was along the road as yesterday, not really my favourite. But then it changed into beautiful.

The first coffee in Puente de Orbigo, always a pleasure. I met different people today which I haven’t seen for a week or two. That’s the Camino!

Reaching Hospital de Orbigo

Here are really nice little villages on the Camino, everything looks so clean and neatly.

A nice spot to rest

Here I met Jürgen. A German guy living since 18 years in New Zealand. We are in one room now.

These two people are walking since the North of France, starting in March. They have a special transport system, not carrying their backpack, but on a wheel.

Resting man

5 km before Astorga was a very special place . You wouldn’t believe what this resting man is providing here.

Such an abundance of food and all for free, just by donation. There were nuts and fruits, chocolate and cakes, coffee, juices, jams, bread and more. A feeling of paradise coming from the dusty road.

Already Astorga in view
San Justo de la Vega and behind Astorga
Arriving in Astorga
Albergue de Peregrinos Siervas de María

This Albergue is really fantastic pretty and organised. 156 beds, but separated in rooms for 2-12 people. In my room we are eight, from 7 different countries.

My dormitory
Corridor
Veranda
Plaza de España
Plaza Santocildes

I lost some kilos weight already, not my luggage but my body. Wilfried said yesterday in a Zoom meeting my face has more contours. Not surprising, burning 🔥 a lot of calories.

Nice park next to the Albergue

Just sitting in cool park relaxing. No Vodafone shop in Astorga. I went to Movistar and got for €20, 28 days 140 GB and it works. Better to try a SIMcard immediately. I still can complain at Vodafone in Santiago.

It’s already 860 meter altitude here. The next days it will go up to more than 1000 meters again, but quite smooth they told me.
