Buen Camino – 24 km – Barbadelo

Leaving Albergue Complexo Xacobeo

Was s good night in a Double room with Andrew, quiet. Andrew came back late, I was sleeping already, didn’t hear him. In the morning we had a coffee from the machine. Michelle and Steff, the English ladies, were already preparing their feet for the walk today. At 07:00 we left quite late today.

Very foggy all the morning
Let’s make shapes
The forest

Walking through a beautiful forest this morning, a real forest like a German forest. Andrew said the eucalyptus forests, the gum tree forests like in Australia, they call them toothless. Reminds me at Portugal.

We came across a house with an artist, painting,

I came along another place where food was provided donation based. Lovely to rest here and meet some Camino friends. The places owner is from Australia.

The forest here is really stunning, old trees

We decided not to stay in Sarria but moving on to Barbadelo, where I am now. Sarria is a busy town with 13.000 inhabitants and lots of pilgrims starting from here. It’s the home stage to Santiago, just 5 days walk. Also called the tourist Camino. You need to do at least 100 km to get the certificate in Santiago.

Entering Sarria

The first visit in Sarria was a tourist office, gathering some information. Next was a shop called 112 km, that’s the distance to Santiago. I got new proper hiking socks, some old ones were really done. In a Pharmacy I got some Ibuprofen, my swollen ankle still hurts and they are anti inflammatory.

In Sarria everybody seems to meet. I was suddenly in a group with 10 Camino friends. 6 of us went for a place having some lunch. We found an Italien Restaurant, with a garden in the back. Some salad and pasta …

The last kilometers to Barbadelo.

Albergue Barbadelo

Then we reached the Albergue Barbadelo. A beautiful place close the village Barbadelo.

Lot of pilgrims here now

The lovely American family from La Faba joined our room. A couple with two teenagers. I had dinner with them and others two days ago in La Faba.

Andrew booked already a place in Portomarin for tomorrow. I just need to walk.

  1. Nice to read and see how you are getting on Chandresh. And great that you meet so many lovely people on the camino. Nearly there! Wishing you some more great days.

    • Hi Dineke! Thanks for your comment and wishes. It’s a real quality time here on the Camino. Just 4 more days to Santiago then to Finisterre. All the best from here!
