Buen Camino – 25 km – Palas de Rei

It can’t be expressed what happens on the Camino with me. There are things in life they have to be experienced.

Preparing for rain

It was raining in the night. I woke up early in the morning wondering about the clicking sound. It was rain falling on a metal sheet. Didn’t use my earplugs as I was alone with Andrew in the room. Guess I slept for a while, looking on my phone it was 05:40. The alarm was set for 06:00, so I switched it off. We started slowly packing. Leaving the house it was still a bit raining. I prepared my backpack with the rain cover. Didn’t want to wear my raincoat, is getting to warm and the rain was not strong. Then we went down to the church, there was an open café nearby. Coffee time!

Leaving Casa Ribera Sacra
Yes it’s raining
Leaving Portomarín
Which way?

Here were two ways to walk, big confusion. Our host advised me to take the way to the right, it’s easier walking, just for 8 km no coffee.

Beautiful forest again
We met Isabel and Christine on the way

It was cloudy all the morning and later it started raining a bit. We had a break, another coffee and food. Paul and Joanna were also here. Andrew and me continued walking with them. For a while we found a small shelter, waiting for the rain to stop. Was not a heavy rain.

That’s really blue
More and more people

We arrived late in Palas de Rei after 24 km. Here are already many Albergues, Pendions and Hotels. They are prepared for the big run to Santiago. The first Albergue I have chosen on gronze.com has opening times from 08:00 to 14:00. No idea how this works. The next one was just around but full with kiddies. Looking for the next Albergue sign, and yes the next one was ours. Back to The dormitory life. For tomorrow I have booked a room for Andrew and me in Fraga Alta. This will be after 24 km from Palas de Rei, we don’t want to go 28,5 km to Arzúa. Adding these km for the next day then, will be 24 km again.
