Road trip – 399 km – Kata Tjuṯa (Olgas)

Kata Tjuta (Olgas)

We left Kings Creek Station after packing and breakfast. It would be around 280 km to Ayers Rock Campground. Before reaching there, we stopped at a mechanic’s place. The car needed some oil. Andrew was checking which one would be the best for the heat in the Great Central. It will be around 38 degrees in the following days.

We reached Ayers Rock Campground past 12:00. It is like a small town here, with shops and lots of accommodation. In the outback, there are many rocks that look similar to Ayers Rock. Due to its spiritual significance in Dreamtime stories, it is considered a sacred mountain by the local Aboriginal people, the Anangu.

Our camping neighbors, they have fancy caravans here in Australia

But today we will visit Kata Tjuta (Olgas) first. It’s a formation of big round rocks, around 30 km from Ayres Rocks. It’s stunning to see it from a distance and even more to walk through it.

We walked through the rocks for an hour or two before approaching Ayers Rock. The sunset is supposed to be very beautiful there. When the sun sets, it will shine its last rays on the rock. We found a good spot to park the car and sat on our chairs to wait for the sunset. The color of the rock would change.
