Road trip – 62 km – Ayers Rock

Again, Ayers Rock today. This time we will walk around it. It must be around 11 km to walk. As we arrived at Ayers Rock, we started walking. From a distance, it doesn’t look so huge, but the sides are 3,6 km in length and 1,9 km in width. It looks stunning; it must have been a volcanic activity a long time ago, just on a small spot, creating this rock. There are caves in the structure; somehow, it reminds me of making porridge, looking at the bubbles.

We needed less than 3 hours to walk around, including some breaks. While walking around it, you never know where you are, I need to look for a photo showing the rock from the top to know its shape.

When arriving back at the Ayers Rock Campground, Yulara, we first went for some lunch. Here is a Cafe, Restaurant, and some shops for souvenirs. You may buy some artwork or paintings in a gallery. It is a busy place, lot’s of buses and caravans and campers are arriving every day.

We went shopping at the grocery store to get some more food. We will be on the Great Central Road tomorrow for three days. Around 800 km from 1130 km will be a dirty road. We filled up the tank with petrol and another canister with 20 liters.

Preparing for the Great Central Road

Andrew prepared some bread and wraps for two days lunch. We also might be offline for the next days and the temperature is going up to 38 degrees. Tomorrow we will change from the Northern Territory to Western Australia. Also the timezone will change then, 90 minutes back.

A Galah and a pidgeon

These birds are very faithful here. We gave them some dried porridge, which we accidentally bought but can’t use because we don’t have milk.

In the evening we prepared some dinner on a barbecue. The air feels very soft, not cold, not hot in the evening. We got some new neighbours. They arrived late from Coober Pedy this morning. A German family in a caravan. They couldn’t find their spot, so Andrew guided them.

  1. Christian you can cook porridge with just water and it’s fine, add some cinnamon and raisins or dates and it’ll help sweeten the taste. I’m the queen of making porridge 😂
