Guidance for Seekers

While reading the biographies of Saints and Sages, sometimes, one may unknowingly fall into imitation. The mind compares and forms false ideas, believing that it must do the same actions as the Saint to attain freedom, as though it is a fixed path. Each person’s journey is totally unique. Rather, one should read about the lives of Saints, draw inspiration from it and channel that into one’s own sadhana.

I slept well in my new room. I have a lot of space here, including my bedroom and the big living room with an adjoining bathroom. Thomas, he is from Germany, arrived last night. I met him the first time when Kabir showed him around. Thomas was here already a few years ago, Kabir mentioned. So with Maha, we are four people again.

I worked as usual for a while on my laptop and wrote my daily blog for the previous day. There is an ongoing hammering from the neighbor’s constructions. They are building a small house in the backyard. In the meantime, my friends Daniela and Alexandru arrived in Tiruvannamalai. I met them both in Portugal while I was living in the district of Coimbra. Now they are living in the Algarve, same as me. They are born in Argentina and Moldavia. It might be that we meet later in February in Tiruvannamalai when I am back from Sri Lanka.

At noon I felt to move a bit. So I started with my scooter, wasn’t sure where to go. A the intersection I had to make a decision. Right to Candolim, straight to Vagator/Chapora, or left to Anjuna. I went straight. I had some lunch, was walking around a bit, there are many shops. I enjoyed an ice cream but didn’t feel like going to the beach today.

So I headed back to Assagao, made a coffee, and shortly later I fell asleep. I really can sleep after coffee or tea. So the day was passing by. I read some news about what’s going on in the world. It needs serenity to accept the things I cannot change. I think, and that is the spiritual approach, that change is coming from the individual. Changing myself has an impact on my environment and the people in life I am dealing with. If you impose your ideals on people, and that is what Karl Marx did with his communist ideologies, it is bound to fail. It is impossible to change the society when people are not ready for it.

The rest of the day I spent mostly in my living room, reading and watching some videos.
