Buen Camino – 21 km – Navarrete

Left Viana at 07:00 this morning, direction to Logrono. Just 8 km from Viana. I felt a bit lost in the beginning wile walking, was quite chilly and cloudy, the landscape quite dull. I thought I will stay in Logroño tonight, not going further. A big road was close, the sound of cars. I left Navarra and entered the region of Rioja. The closer I came to Logroño the more I felt not to stay. Although my feet were tired I decided to pass Logroño and continue walking to Navarrete, which is 21 km from Viana. Also the hostels open around 13:00. Just needed a coffee, didn’t have one in the morning.

In Logroño I lost the camino. I looked at my app, using OsmAndMaps. It’s a map for routs all over the world. Just downloaded the areas I am walking, GPS signal will be added. No need of internet for this app. The app showed I missed a bridge over the river. There was another bridge close, so I crossed this one and was soon back on the Camino.

Logroño is with 150.000 inhabitants the capitol of Rioja. I was happy to leave it. After 4 years living in the countryside of Portugal city life feels different for me.

Found a very nice hostel „Albergue La Casa del Peregrino Ángel“. The best I ever stayed so far. A warm welcome from Anthony, a French guy, spent 25 years in Texas and California. It feels home for today. Checked in, had a shower and washed some clothes. Went downtown to the mini market and got some food. Eating an ice-cream and bread with cheese on a plaza bench. Back to the Albergue, had a nice talk with Anthony sharing some stuff about our life’s. Anthony was working as a chef, he will cook today, dinner at 19:00. Vegetarian paella.

What a lovely place this Albergue. For dinner we were 12 people. All sitting on one table, everyone was sharing their name, where they are from, and for what are they grateful today. Then we had a delicious paella with wine or water, some kind of custard dessert. Was fun!

Here is a beautiful church in this small town. We went to see it, there was a ceremony with a priest going on. At the end he asked the pilgrims to come in front. So we did and got some blessings. I hope he blessed my feet.

Yes Ina, one moment not aware and I lost the path, just shortly. I see you are in the Netherlands already. Can’t read your text well, copying is not possible with the Polarsteps app, so I can’t translate. Buen Camino
