Jnani

We live our lives with our opinions, attachments and desires. These are resistances to life. Life flows one way, but we want it to be different. Whereas a Jnani completely moves with the flow of life.

I sit on the veranda with my laptop every morning, writing my blog or working on something. Pringi brings me a coffee, and I enjoy the fresh air in the morning. There is often a little wind blowing. Later in the morning, I ordered a Tuk Tuk with the PickMe app, I wanted to try the ‘White House Cafe’. When we got there, somewhere outside of the town, it was just a house, not a Cafe. Pringi said it must be in town. Anyway, I booked another Tuk Tuk and we went to ‘The Bake House’ in town. As I was there yesterday I chose another Cafe nearby and had some breakfast. Sri Lanka is not a country for having a good coffee, and if they offer coffee it is quite expensive.

After having a breakfast I thought I could visit the big temple nearby. On the way there I was talking to a guy near the lake in a big complex with an old stylish hotel and some shops. He said there would be ceremonies at 09:30, 15,30, and 18:30. He also mentioned the Kandy Dance performance from 17:00-18:00. So he walked with me along the lake on the right side, on the left was the big temple garden. When we reached the theatre he was talking to a guy and he made the reservation with my name on a board, I got a seat on the balcony, first row right in the middle. He offered me also a tour of one of the next days to Sigirya, where these stunning rocks were. Pidurangala Rock is an incredible 360-degree viewpoint located opposite the world-famous Sigiriya Lion Rock. Hiking to the top is possible for both of these rocks, but hiking at dawn to the top of Pidurangala Rock is a real adventure. The tour would also include a trip to an elephant park, a Hindu Temple, and something I forgot. I will think about it and talk with him tomorrow again about what is included in the price, tickets, etc. …

We walked back to town and sat down in the hotel coffee where Sal offered me tea. After that I walked around a bit in town and decided to go home, it was around 14:30 already. Just two hours before the Dance Show. I tried to book a Tuk Tuk or bike, but it didn’t work this time, rush hour after school, and nobody picked me up. I decided to stay in town and have some late lunch, or early dinner. I walked to ‘Dosai Kingdom’ this time, an Indian Restaurant, and had an Onion Masala Dosa. It was very filling, still enough space to have an ice cream on the way. I sat down on the way to the lake on a children’s playground. There were some benches and people were resting there. I completed writing my blog from the previous day before proceeding to the lake. The Kandy City Centre, where I had dinner two days ago, was close. I went into the air-conditioned building. When I looked at Google Maps, it showed me 25 minutes to walk to the Kandy Dance performance. So I left and walked over to the place along the lake.

I still had time when I reached. I sat down on some stairs near the theatre, and a fig was falling at my neck. I took it and gave it to Pringi later. At 16:30, I walked up the stairs and entered the theatre. One of the staff showed me my seat. The show began at 17:00 and was quite impressive, with female and male dancers, drummers, and a guy playing a high-frequency flute, not sure which one it was. They showed six different performances, also with somersaults and Firedance.

There would be a ceremony in the Buddhist Temple, but I was too tired today, I will go there one of the next days. I was out today for eight hours already. I walked along the lake again and came to the road. There I booked a bike and went home.

Kandy Lake (Sinhala: නුවර වැව), also known as Kiri Muhuda or the Sea of Milk

I was talking with Pringi for a while about my trip to Sigirya and if it’s worth it. She brought me a tea to the veranda and I was talking for a while with Srimal.
