Jnani

The most ecstatic experience, even if it is spiritual, is also a disturbance for the Jnani.

Today is Independence Day in Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka’s Independence Day is celebrated on February 4th each year. This national holiday commemorates Sri Lanka’s political independence from British rule in 1948. The country’s day is marked with various cultural events, including traditional dances, music performances, and other festivities. It’s a day for Sri Lankans to celebrate their history, unity, and the progress they’ve made as an independent nation. I was wearing a white Sarong and a white Kurta, traditional clothes here. Sometimes they call it Sarong, sometimes Lungi, I think it depends on the region.

After some work on different projects on my laptop, I prepared to drive downtown. I ordered a Tuk Tuk with the PickMe app and waited in the living room with Pringi and Manjula. Manjula is a friend and neighbor of Pringi’s. She just returned from Australia, where her daughter lives, and works as a surgeon. Manjula goes to a Buddhist Temple nearby daily to worship and meditate. It is very refreshing to have Pringi and Manjula around. They showed me how to wear my Sarong properly, the golden strip should be vertical from the waist to the bottom.

My Tuk Tuk arrived, and my destination was ‘The Bake House’. I went for breakfast nearby at a place called “The Okrey”. I must revoke my statement that they don’t have good coffee in Sri Lanka, here, you get a quite good one that is not so expensive. The next destination was the office of Lal. I wanted to talk with him about the tour to Sigirya Rock the following day. I met him on the road already. He offered me a King Coconut, they are the best. The peel is yellow, and they contain a lot of tasty liquid. Then he showed me the Amith Gems Ltd. We saw a short video about how they are mining the gems here in the jungles of Sri Lanka. A friendly staff member showed and explained everything in the museum, then we walked to the salesroom. Of course, if I would buy something, Lal would get provision from the sale.

Then we got a bus to drive back near to the lake where his office is located. I walked to the railway station to withdraw some money from the ATM. At this ATM, they are not charging extra fees of 500 or 1000 Rupees. My bank gets 2,2 % for transactions outside the EU anyway. Then I booked a Tuk Tuk and went home.

Later in the evening, Srimal dropped me at Rasa Vimana, the Restaurant nearby where I had been before. I enjoyed again a nice dinner and walked home, it took maybe 20 minutes.
