Grace

There is only one sign to understand that the Grace has entered our life after unconditional surrender. When Grace starts working, life becomes a happening beyond all our plans and expectations. We totally lose our hold on anything; or rather Grace takes over everything and makes us a witness to it.

The last day in “The Peppermint”, the last day in Kandy. The Sri Dalada Maligawa Temple, also called the “Temple of the Tooth” is still on my bucket list.

A Brief History of the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic.

The Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic is a world-renowned place of worship, where the left Canine tooth of Gautama Buddha is enshrined. The temple venerated by thousands of local & foreign devotees and tourists daily was named a world heritage by UNESCO in 1988.

The temple which carries a lot of value to Buddhists worldwide also has immense cultural value. The architecture is of unique Kandyan architectural style with a combination of the unique style used to build “Dalada Mandira” the shrines which housed the Sacred Tooth Relic previously in other kingdoms.

The temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic is built in the city of Kandy near the ancient Royal Palace which is situated to the North of the temple and the forest reserve called “Udawaththa Kelaya” to the East. The famous Kandy Lake is also known as “Kiri Muhuda” to the South and “Natha & Paththini Devala” to the West. The temple is adorned with intricate carvings using gold, silver, bronze, and ivory.

Manjula was around, she wanted to visit her mother today. So she called her Tuk Tuk driver and asked me to join her, he would drop me at the temple. I entered the temple area, it is a big area with buildings and a garden.

At 10:00 the ceremony will start, with music and offerings, and people bring flowers. Must be a very good flower business here in Kandy, the ceremony is three times every day, and many people are joining.

During the ceremony, it was quite tight in the temple. We were just walking through it. Outside was then more space again.

One is missing the show …

I was sitting for a while outside and meditating. After a while, I got up again and had to find my shoes. I left the temple and went towards KCC (Kandy City Centre). Keshi, Pringi’s daughter needs a laptop for the school. I just checked some prices in the computer shop. My laptop, which I recently bought in India, is here 40% more expensive. But I found a repeater, to extend the WiFi signal. It will be a gift for Pringi, so the WiFi will be stronger in the room where I am now.

And then I wanted to visit the Udawatta Kele Forest. It would be easy to walk from here. I left KCC and after some minutes I met Lal, the guide with whom I had been to the Sigiriya Rock. He invited me for tea and cake in the Hotel Cafe. Then I continued to the Udawatta Kele Forest.

View on Kandy

A nice forest with big old trees, just to relax from hectic Kandy. Late afternoon I went home and installed the WiFi repeater. At 17:30 Srimal gave me a lift to an Ayurvedic Massage Center. I booked a full-body massage. My masseur was really good, I felt rejuvenated. Srimal was waiting for me. He dropped me at a Restaurant nearby, he went to buy some Pizza, Keshi is asking for it once a week. After that, he picked me up at the Restaurant and we went home. The rest of the day I spent with Pringi, talking, laughing, watching old photos. We are already very familiar after only one week.
